One of the most controversial medical topics today is embryonic stem cellsresearch. Most of the embryonic stem cells come from the excess embryos that are produced during the invitro fertilization process. During this process multiple eggs are fertilized to ensure that there are enough available to create a viable pregnancy.
The controversy comes from the argument of what to do with the embryos that are not used. In some cases the couple decides to keep the embryos frozen for possible use later. In many cases the medical facilities disposes of the embryos as medical waste. Prior to restrictive laws, some of the embryos were used for research.
