BPH is more commonly found among older men, because when a man ages his prostate naturally enlarges. BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy) is the growth of the prostate that isn’t caused by cancer. BPH treatment may involve medication or surgery, but BPH is not cancer.
Risk for prostate cancer is elevated in men with a family history of the disease, and increases in general as men age. More than 70% of all prostate cancer cases are diagnosed in men over 65. Risk of erectile dysfunction similar to conformal radiation therapy, where the risk of irritative urinary symptoms following brachytherapy may be higher.
