There are several over-the-counter and prescription drug available for treating acid reflux, and there are also a few non-drug treatments that have been proven effective. Treatment can often include a combination of quick-relief medicines to dilate constricted airways and long-term medications that reduce inflammation or relax muscles, where the combination of medication and education about how to control asthma allows the majority of asthma patients to live a normal life.

Risk for prostate cancer is elevated in men with a family history of the disease, and increases in general as men age. More than 70% of all prostate cancer cases are diagnosed in men over 65. Risk of erectile dysfunction similar to conformal radiation therapy, where the risk of irritative urinary symptoms following brachytherapy may be higher.

Appropriate hearing protection is a must for hunters and shooters

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

According to the American Academy of Otolaryngology (AAO), exposure to noise at or above the 80 to 85 decibels (dB) range can produce injury to the ear. Since not all types of hearing protection are equal, recommend basing your buying decision on a combination of facts and price. Although carpenters surveyed understood that hearing loss was an industry problem, that it would affect them personally and believed that hearing protection could prevent hearing loss, they still did not actually wear hearing protection. Appropriate hearing protection is a must for hunters and shooters of all ages, although it's normally the last thing on a shooter or hunter's mind. Most people would think buying some type of hearing protections would be pretty easy, but there are a number of different types of hearing protection available along with various levels of protection. The damage itself comes about when the loud noise injures the sensitive nerve endings in the inner ear. Any protective equipment provided for use should be appropriate for the wearer and that it is appropriate for the risk. The louder the noise or longer the exposure to the sound, the more harm occurs. Protective equipment should be in a clean and hygienic condition for the wearer. The ear muff style design is nice as the cup has a seal that protects the entire ear from the noise versus the ear plugs which only partially protect the ear canal itself. This equipment should not be shared between wearers unless the equipment is deemed to be clean. Most ear muff models have the ability to be adjusted, although some of the less expensive ear muff models may not have this feature. Any protective equipment used should be stored and located in an appropriate place so that it remains clean and not exposed to the elements. Any storage areas for protective equipment should be clearly identified. Several of the higher end electronic models may have other enhancements such as a independent volume adjustment for each side of the ear muffs, enhanced adjustability, a battery saver feature to conserve battery use, and ambient sound magnification.

It can be difficult to find the right hearing aid battery

Friday, July 25th, 2008

There are a number of different types of hearing aid batteries. It can be difficult to find the right hearing aid battery. There are many different types of hearing aids, all of which take different batteries. There is nothing worse than being out and your hearing aid batteries go flat. There are a number of excellent brands of hearing aid batteries on the market including Rayovac and Energizer. Most of the big battery manufacturers produce batteries suitable for hearing aids. Under normal circumstances the hearing aid battery should be changed every 7-14 days, however this depends on the type of hearing aid and also the amount of time you use it. There is however a simple color coded system that can be used to help find the correct size of battery. If your batteries run out quicker than you expect it could be due to a defect with your hearing aid, it's important to get it properly checked out. Zinc air hearing aid batteries can last up to 2 ½ times longer than mercury batteries and are activated by exposure to air once you pull off the tab. Some important tips to remember when installing new batteries in your hearing aids is to take the tab off and give your new batteries some time to ramp up before putting them into your hearing aids. If you take the old battery out of the hearing aid there should be a small color tab on the back of the battery. So one accessory you will need to know something about is hearing aid batteries and how to care for them so that they last as long as possible. Drying kits will dry up your battery’s electrolyte. You can then use this color code system to buy a replacement battery. If you put a brand new battery into your hearing aid without giving it ramp up time, it may cause your aid to beep signaling that the battery is dead. If this happens, your will shorten the life of your battery. You will find that most people use zinc air batteries because they tend to have a longer shelf life. There are companies on the internet who are able to deliver the batteries right to your door, this is perfect if you find it difficult to get out of the house. It's very easy to find the popular hearing aid batteries in your local drugstore. When shopping for batteries, keep in mind that they come in two types which are zinc-air and mercury.
