The Myths of Alcohol Addiction

Some think that alcoholics lack the will power to simply stop drinking. The brain is affected by drinking alcohol, which leads to a compulsion to drink. Denying that you have a problem simply because you do not drink for several days, yet consume large quantities over a weekend is a common symptom of alcohol abuse. Wine and beer may not be considered hard liquor, but both still have the same affect. Alcohol is a drug, and being addicted to it can lead to long-term illnesses.
