Zoster Ophthalmicus And Shingles

When shingles occurs in an eye it has a special name, zoster ophthalmicus. This particular form of shingles can cause a great deal of pain due to swelling. It can also cause some serious complications including temporary or permanent loss of vision. If a person has shingles, especially on or near the eye, it is very important that the person see the doctor immediately. There are medications that can be taken to reduce the risk of suffering serious complications of the virus.
