Diagnosing Colon Carcinoma
Friday, July 18th, 2008The cancer of the colon can be treated without resorting to surgery if diagnosed in early stages. There are various ways to diagnose colon carcinoma. There is a physical examination that detects a palpation of the abdomen, liver, groin and supraclavicular. In some cases a rectal examination is recommended if the risk of a synchronous tumor is suspected.
There also are certain imaging techniques used for diagnosing like, colonoscopy, hepatic ultrasound and chest X-ray. They are sometimes followed by a CT scan.
While diagnosing the disease, the family history of the patient is also checked for any other cases of colon cancer in the family.
