Stomach Bloating Is Common In IBD and IBS
Friday, July 4th, 2008Very often, IBD may be confused with IBS, since symptoms of both these ailments are very similar. Just as in the case of IBD, even patients with IBS may experience diarrhea and abdominal bloating identical to ulcerative colitis stomach bloating. Symptoms of ulcerative colitis stomach bloating can also be seen in Crohn’s patients. The primary difference between both these diseases is that while IBS is a functional disease of the bowel movement without any inflammation, IBD is a chronic condition of the bowel, characterized by inflammation. IBS patients do not have ‘red flags’. A red flag implies weight loss, bowel movements with bleeding, fever, as well as palpable abdominal mass.
