About Peripheral Neuropathy

Friday, May 16th, 2008

I have heard a lot of bad things about diabetes, but no one ever warned me about
Peripheral Neuropathy. The “agony of de-feet,” I call it. It’s absolutely debilitating.
I’ve tried to research Diabetic Neuropathy Symptoms, but I’m no doctor, and the doctors at my HMO have been characteristically unhelpful. The health system in this country really stinks.
It was hard enough motivating myself to exercise before, but now it’s just hellish. Ah well, nothing to do but keep at it.

CATCHING DIABETES EARLY

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Before people develop Type 2 diabetes, they usually have pre-diabetes.  This is when their blood sugar levels are higher than what is normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as a diabetic.  Diabetes is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors; you cannot develop it by eating too much sugar, sweets or chocolate.  People with pre-diabetes do not need special diabetic foods; they should follow a healthy meal plan low in saturated and trans fats, moderate in sugar and salt just like everyone else.  Recent studies have shown that people with pre-diabetes can return their blood glucose levels to normal by making changes in their diets and increasing their daily physical activity.
